What is a Quick way to Break in a Goalie Catcher?
I recently got a new glove for hockey, and I need to break it in.
It is somewhat broken in, but I need some more work done on it.
Does anyone know a quick, and easy way to break it in?
Make glove saves.
I heard some guy used a very light application of linseed oil at room temperature. Me? I made the mistake of leaving mine in the garage one night and it was never the same. Anyway, just using it is probably the best way to break it in.
I preferred shaping my gloves too. When I played baseball, I would take a softball (not a typo) and place it in the webbing and wrap the glove as tightly as I could around it. I'd keep it that way with a shoelace tied around it for every minute between games and practice. But shaping alone does not a glove make. It is important to be able to open the glove with little resistance. That's why I took it upon myself to follow the aforementioned guy's method and applied the oil to the back of my gloves where my hand would need the most flexibility - at the base of each finger.
With a netminders glove, the shape was best acheived by storing the glove with the waffle tucked inside the mitt. I didn't like the linseed oil because I thought it took away from the sturdiness. Baseball was different because I was a pitcher and hardly needed to use my glove on plays. (You have to wonder why, what with all the hits I gave up, but that's for another question...).
In conclusion, if it were my glove, I would "exercise" the mitt repeatedly in my spare time so as to make opening it less resistant than it's manufactured state. Practicing with it is better.
