A cashier gave me extra change, should I return it?
Here's how it went. Mom gave me $100 to go buy food from her grocery list. I bought some food at a Costco wholesales today and gave the cashier my $100 bill. He gave me my change plus an extra $ 20.
I know I should give the extra 20 back because of Karma's fury & the morality issue people talk about, but I am a broke college student who hasn't had much luck in finding a part-time job. I also need to save up for a new pair of shoes b/c my current pair is about to rip.
I rationalized back and forth and could not come to a firm decision. So I wondered what Yahoo Answers would think.
Would you take the money or give it back if in the same situation and if so, any particular reasons why?

Yes return it. I know it is extremely tempting to keep it but believe me, if he/she is short then they will have to pay it out of their own money and if this happens too often then they could very well lose their position as a cashier.
believe me it is one of the worst things that can happen, when you're short at the register. Hell even if it's already the next day just do it.
EDIT: okay now reading the rest of what you said...i guess i can understand what you're going through. if you keep it just promise yourself that when you get a job you will return the 20 bucks to that cashier. that way for now it's cause of survival but so that he/she knows you're not greedy
