hockey goalie reflex training?
okay, here's my story. im 14, and i am thinking of joining hockey next year. i want to practice my rexlexes such as glove, 5-hole and blocker. i have no siblings or anything to take shots on me. i've got the equipment, but not the taining...any tips?
what I can recommend for glove and blocker is to get a tennis ball and throw it off a wall to each hand, this will help with your hand eye, which will help with your reflexes, for 5 hole you could put your pads on and just drop to your knee's butterfly style and then up again. go slow at first so you can focus on what you are doing, eventually it will become 2nd nature.try to time yourself on how fast you do it and then aim to improve. In this exercise you can also use the tennis ball and try to get it through your legs. Reflexes are only part of playing goal, positioning is also important if not more important than reflexes. Watch some of the pro's who make it look easy. They rely on positioning more that their reflex. Their are also some resources on Vaughn's website. Another thing you can think to do if its available is go to a goaltending school. Hope this helps, and good luck. Goaltending is fun but is very challenging, especially when just learning the position
