why are my waxed laces coming undone during my hockey games?

I play ice hockey, have vapor XXXX's. about half way during the game i can feel my skates become a little loose and i gotta re tie them on the bench. theyre waxed laces though, this shouldnt be happening. anyone know why or are these just a faultered pair of waxe dlaces?

I see a couple of possible reasons. Either you aren't getting them tight enough to start with, or the laces are so new that they are stretching a bit during the game.

I use waxed laces, and love them, however while waxed laces do offer a bit more resistance to loosening, they also offer the same resistance to getting them really tight.

There are some pretty substantial forces exerted on the skate, and laces during a game, so if they aren't really tight to start with, they will "appear" to loosen, but really the laces just move around enough to make them a bit loose.

Try this. Make sure you loosen your skates up enough that when you slip them on, and I mean slip them on (if you have to fight to get them on, you aren't loosening them up enough to start with) then just pull the laces snug to just get rid of all that slack, starting from the toe and end up at the top. Then go back and start over, at the toe, tightening them up tight as is comfortable back to the top again.
